Banquet Fare

You may be wondering what is with all the food pictures. The truth is, it's a sad state of affairs when you are traveling in a foreign country and all you have done for the past 2 weeks is eat, relax, and, well, eat some more. But maybe it's this relaxed atmosphere, or maybe the heat, that doesn't allow you to gain much weight here. And, of course, everything is delicious!

Case in point: we had TWO (2) crab feasts this week. For those who aren't familiar with a typical Ecuadorian "cangrejada", it goes something like this:

The ingredients: Plantains, tomatoes, onions, peppers, crabs (of course), rice, lemons (although they really look like limes, because yellow lemons don't exist here).

Plantains: $5.00
Onions: $0.50/lb
Tomatoes: $0.50/lb
Green Peppers: 12 for $1.00
Crabs: $30.00 for about 60 crabs
Limes: $1.00 for the whole bag
Rice: $8.00 for a 20 lb sack
Enjoying a good ol' fashioned crab boil in Ecuador with family for two (2) days: PRICELESS!!

When buying car, make sure you have plenty of trunk space

I had to make sure there would be plenty of trunk space in this Renaul Logan, so I had my 6 foot husband climb in to sure.
